Atletico win at Betis to go second

Atletico Madrid moved above city rivals Real into second place in La Liga with victory at Real Betis.

The 2013-14 champions led after seven minutes when keeper Adan, whom Betis later lost to injury, parried Fernando Torres' shot to Koke, who fired home.

That proved to be the only goal as Atletico took advantage of Real's 4-0 defeat by Barcelona on Saturday.

Atleti should have doubled their lead in the final minutes but Antoine Griezmann hit the post.

Earlier in the day, Jaume Costa scored a late equaliser for Villarreal as they drew 1-1 with Eibar 1-1 to move up to fourth in La Liga.

Granada moved out of the relegation zone with a 2-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao, and Deyverson scored twice as Levante beat fellow strugglers Sporting Gijon 3-0 away from home.
