Pepe Mel: Real Betis sack manager after defeat at Getafe

Former West Bromwich Albion boss Pepe Mel has been sacked by Real Betis after a poor run of form in La Liga.

Mel took over at Betis for a second time in December 2014 and led them to promotion to Spain's top-flight.

However, they have struggled this season and Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Getafe left them 15th in the table, five points above the relegation zone.

West Brom appointed Mel as head coach in January 2014 but parted company with the Spaniard just four months later.

Betis have lost their last three league games and are without a win in eight in all competitions.

They have also failed to score in the last five.

Mel, 52, was first in charge of Betis between July 2010 and December 2013 before being appointed by West Brom the following month.
