Carneiro appears at tribunal hearing

Eva Carneiro: Ex-Chelsea doctor appears at employment tribunal

Ex-Chelsea doctor Eva Carneiro has appeared at a tribunal hearing for her constructive dismissal case against the Premier League champions.

The preliminary hearing, held in private, took place at the London South Employment Tribunal in Croydon.

Carneiro is suing the club for constructive dismissal and breach of contract.

There is a separate but connected legal claim against former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho for alleged discrimination.

How did we reach this point?

  • Carneiro and physio Jon Fearn enter the pitch to treat Eden Hazard during the 2-2 draw with Swansea at Stamford Bridge on 8 August
  • Chelsea boss Mourinho tells the media that Carneiro and Fearn were "impulsive and naive" to treat Hazard as the Blues were already down to 10 men and the Belgian then had to leave the pitch temporarily
  • Carneiro's role is downgraded and she is not on the Chelsea bench for the next first-team game at Manchester City
  • On 22 September it is announced that she has left the club
  • On 30 September the FA clear Mourinho of making discriminatory comments and announce that it will not take any disciplinary action
  • On 2 October Carneiro says she was not asked to testify by the FA
  • Lawyers acting for Carneiro serve notice of a claim of constructive dismissal against Chelsea in late October
  • In early November a separate but connected legal claim is served against Mourinho
  • Mourinho is sacked as Chelsea manager on 17 December, while the club file their defence against Carneiro's claim
