Juventus and AC Milan players met Pope Francis before Saturday's Coppa Italia final at Rome's Stadio Olimpico.
The Argentine football fan told both teams: "Be champions of sport, but above all champions in life."
Juve are chasing a second double in a row, while AC Milan have not won a trophy since the 2010-11 Serie A title.
AC Milan, for whom Liverpool loanee Mario Balotelli could make his final appearance, need to win to qualify for Europe after finishing seventh.
Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba said: "We must not think that we're favourites against Milan. On the contrary, we need to be very humble and to know that in one-off matches like these the strongest sides do not always win.
"We'll see who's the hungrier side on the night, but what I can say is that we're eager to go down in history as the first team to win a domestic double in successive seasons."
Juve boss Massimiliano Allegri confirmed Mario Mandzukic and Paulo Dybala will start up front, and added: "We'll see a reaction from Milan tomorrow following their last Serie A game. It will be an evenly matched affair."
