Di Maria scores as PSG go 20 points clear

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Angel di Maria scored excellent goals as Paris St-Germain temporarily went 20 points clear at the top of Ligue 1 with victory over Caen.

Di Maria opened the scoring against their fourth-placed opponents from 16 yards out.

Ibrahimovic then failed to score in a remarkable sequence where Remy Vercoutre saved his first effort, then the Swede hit the bar and from the follow-up his bicycle kick was saved.

But he sealed the victory before the break with a first-time half-volley from 20 yards.

And Di Maria scored his sixth league goal since his move from Manchester United after deftly flicking Lucas Moura's header over the keeper in the second half.

Caen had the chance to pull one back late on when they won a penalty but Kevin Trapp kept out Andy Delort's effort.

PSG, chasing their fourth consecutive title, remain unbeaten domestically and have the best first-half points total to a Ligue 1 season with 51.

No side has ever gone unbeaten throughout a Ligue 1 season.

Their lead at the top will be back to 17 points if Monaco beat Troyes on Saturday (19:00 GMT) or Angers beat St Etienne on Sunday.
