Chris Ramsey: Former head coach returns to QPR in technical role

Former QPR head coach Chris Ramsey has been appointed as the Championship club's technical director.

Ramsey, 53, took charge of Rangers last February but was sacked in November.

He will be responsible for a variety of roles relating to coaching and player development at the west London club.

"Whilst we were disappointed things didn't work out with Chris at first-team level, we were determined to retain his services," director of football Les Ferdinand said. 

"As such, we actually put a clause in his contract which allowed us to retain Chris's services in a player-development role should things not work out for him as head coach."

Ramsey took charge at Loftus Road after Harry Redknapp resigned as manager but he could not save Rangers from relegation from the Premier League.

Ramsey signed a three-year contract last summer but was dismissed on 4 November with QPR 13th in the Championship table, a move Ferdinand said was "in the best interests of the club".

Neil Warnock spent a month in interim charge before the R's appointed Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink as manager, but the Dutchman is still looking for his first victory after six matches in charge.

Ramsey was a coach in QPR's academy before taking on his role with the first-team squad and will oversee coaching within the academy as part of his new role.

"Chris knows academy football inside-out and put the building blocks in place for a lot of the good restructuring work that's been done here over the past 11 months," Ferdinand added.

"He can come in and make an instant impact in an environment he has helped build."
