Hamilton Academical hope to sign Congo-born former Germany Under-18 international Christopher Mandiangu.
The 23-year-old attacking midfielder will be registered by the Scottish Premiership club at the start of January.
His contract will initially be until the summer of 2016.
Hamilton manager Martin Canning told BSports Scotland: "Hopefully we'll get that tied up and it's another attacking option for us."
Mandiangu, most recently with Eindhoven in the Dutch second tier, was at New Douglas Park on Saturday to watch Hamilton lose 3-1 to Ross County.
The midfielder began his career with Borussia Monchengladbach and had spells with Neustrelitz and Berliner Dynamo in Germany's regional leagues before moving to Eindhoven in August.
He made 12 appearances for the Dutch side, his last as a substitute in a 1-1 draw at home to Emmen in November.
"He likes to take the ball and go at people," Canning added.
"We pass the ball well, but we need someone to go and commit people at times as well.
"Christopher definitely wants to get on the ball and commit people, so hopefully he can add something."
