Klopp denies goalkeeper speculation

Liverpool: Jurgen Klopp happy with goalkeeper Simon Mignolet

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has denied speculation he is seeking a replacement for goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.

Ahead of his first transfer window at Anfield, Klopp has been linked with a number of keepers, including Stoke's England international Jack Butland.

But he said: "I'm absolutely satisfied with our goalkeeper situation.

"I'm sorry to kill your stories about German goalkeepers and different goalkeepers from Stoke - we are not looking for another goalkeeper."

Belgium international Mignolet, 27, was dropped last season by former manager Brendan Rodgers but has kept six clean sheets this term.

"I have had a lot of goalkeepers in the last few years and he is one of the smartest I've ever had," added Klopp, whose side visit Southampton in the League Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday.

"He is completely open. He's young enough to develop, to improve. He had not the most easy situation before I came here but since I am here there is nothing to criticise, absolutely nothing."

Gerrard returns to Liverpool training ground

Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has been training with the club to keep himself fit before returning to LA Galaxy in January for the new Major League Soccer season.

Gerrard left Liverpool at the end of the last season after 710 appearances, but when asked about the former England midfielder Klopp said: "He won't play!"

He added: "He was in good shape. It should always be like this if you are a player like Steven Gerrard and at Liverpool the doors have to be open always.

"If you behave like him, it's easy to come back. It's a good situation because he was very important player at this club and is a very important player at this moment in training."

"Everybody had a smile on their face when they saw Stevie, it's good to have him here and I hope we can help him. He can help us for sure if only by being in the dressing room."
