Manchester United paid for the private jet that flew sacked boss Louis van Gaal out of the UK on Monday.
At Van Gaal's request, United agreed to delay confirmation of his sacking until the 64-year-old was on his way to the Algarve with his wife Truus.
It has now been established the club covered the cost of the flight.
United have refused to say how much they paid, but a private jet from Manchester to Portugal at short notice could cost around £10,000.
Van Gaal was sacked two days after guiding United to victory over Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final at Wembley.
He spent two seasons in charge at Old Trafford and is expected to be replaced by former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho.
