Neville's players face 'defining' tie

Gary Neville's Valencia players facing 'defining' match

Champions League: Valencia v Lyon

Venue: Mestalla. Date: Wednesday, 9 December.

Valencia's Champions League match with Lyon on Wednesday will "define our lives", says midfielder Danilo Barbosa.

Valencia must defeat Lyon at the Mestalla in Gary Neville's first game in charge to have any chance of making the knockout stages.

It is a tough start for Neville in his new role as head coach of Valencia, and Barbosa said it is a match of huge significance for the Spanish club.

"I think the team will make the most of that game," said Brazilian Barbosa.

Barbosa, 19, played as Valencia came from behind to secure a point against champions Barcelona on Saturday, a match Neville watched from the stand before officially taking charge on Sunday.

Valencia start the final round of Group H games third in the table on six points, one behind second-placed Gent.

Lyon are bottom and cannot qualify for the last 16.

A win will not be enough for Neville's team if Gent win at home to group winners Zenit St Petersburg, who have already qualified after winning all five games.

"We all know Wednesday's game is one that will define our lives," added Barbosa.

Speaking about the appointment of former Manchester United and England defender Neville as head coach, Barbosa added: "The first contact with the new coach was very brief but he was a great player for Manchester United.

"Now it is time to pull together."
