Oldham boss John Sheridan is expected to be announced as the new Notts County manager in the next few days, Radio Nottingham reports.

The 51-year-old previously worked with the Magpies chief executive Jason Turner, who was appointed on 22 March, at former club Newport County.

Sheridan was linked with Notts County in January before the League Two side appointed Jamie Fullarton.

However, Fullarton was sacked after just 70 days as manager at Meadow Lane.

Mark Cooper took charge for the remainder of the season after being given a points target, but left to take over at Forest Green Rovers.

Notts were put up for sale by owner Ray Trew in March, who put Mark Cooper who resigned as chairman on 25 February before Julian Winter left his post as chief executive after less than six months in the job.

Former Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday player Sheridan began his managerial career at Oldham before moving on to Chesterfield, Plymouth and then Newport.

He was in charge of the Welsh club from October last year to January, winning five of his 17 games, before returning to Oldham - where he has a year left on his contract.
